At present Tjhabelang offers schooling to children in the first three years of formal education and prepares children to enter formal schooling for three years prior.

Poverty should not be an insurmountable barrier to lifelong progress and achievement. Tjhabelang Primary School provides the children of Bainsvlei, a rural area to the west of Bloemfontein, with the opportunity to enjoy an above average educational experience at a fraction of the cost of similar schooling in town. Tjhabelang’s holistic approach to education attends to learners’ academic, physical, social and spiritual needs, thereby opening the mind to the possibility that life offers unlimited opportunities that, with the right skills and attitude of self-belief, can lift people out of poverty and onto a path of purposeful self-determination. The founders of Tjhabelang, a Sesotho word meaning to shine and to keep shining, believe a child’s experiences in his or her first nine years of life are fundamental to shaping his or her attitude and approach to education in general. Tjhabelang is fully dependent on the generosity of donors to finance its operations.
